Taste of Lagos is back.

Last year December 11th was the celebrity edition which saw Lagosians thrilled with entertainment and mouth watering delicacies at Freedom park, Lagos Island. Taste of Lagos is back! Its time for the Mainland to host Lagosians at the general edition, to hold from the 1st to 4th August 2017. Venue is National Stadium, Surulere Lagos. Participation is open to Lagos based Restaurants and Bukaterians to be awarded during the gala night on the 4th of August which is the grand finale. There will also be food expo and eating competition during which participants win raffles. Taste of Lagos is endorsed by the Lagos state government and is part of the celebration for Lagos @50.

The commencement of the 2017 edition of the food and drinks festival was announced by the coordinator of the event and a director of the company, Mr. Abiodun Fagbohun at a media chat in his office. He added, ‘’Taste of Lagos, which is an annual tourism and food security-focused event to promote the indigenous food culture of Lagos,” Fagbohun said, adding, “It is an event organized in support of the agenda of the Lagos State Government on food security agenda as well as to draw international attention to and raise awareness of indigenous cuisines of Nigeria.” 

It also aims at celebrating the indigenous cuisines of Lagos whilst establishing the city of Lagos in the league of other famous City-based Food and Drinks festival such as Taste of Dubai; Taste of London; Taste of Cape Town and Taste of Chicago, amongst several others. 

Apart from the usual foods and drinks exhibition, activities at Taste of Lagos 2017 will include daily food eating competition in five popular Nigerian cuisines consumed in Lagos, notaby: Pounded Yam, Amala, Tuwo, Ofada rice, Akpu and Eba, Suya, and Apu.

Lagosians will also have opportunity to nominate their best indigenous food and snack restaurants for awards in the following categories: Pounded yam, Tuwo, Amala, Suya, Eba, Ofada rice, Nkwobi, Akpu, Edikaikong soup and Afang soup.

Fagbohun explained that all stakeholders in the food and drink sector are expected at the four-day event, will have the opportunity of showcasing the prowess in preparation of Nigeria food and drinks to the over 40,000 Lagosians expected at the four day event that will end with Award / Gala night on Friday 4th August at the popular OJez Entertainment pavilion located at the National stadium, Suru-Lere Lagos.
