It is no longer news that a 30 years old graduate of Obafemi
Awolowo University, who lived in Ikorodu axis of Lagos state, took his own life
on the early hours of New Year day, 1st of January 2014. It was
published by PM news and tailored online by bloggers. According the suicide
letter found by the late Ogunsona Daniel Adekunle Adebambo’s younger brother,
his action was blamed on his girl friend for father refusing to let him get
married to her.
No doubt, this is not the first case of suicide by a bright
and promising young person. In recent times, it has been a case of more guys
than women in Nigeria. One of the major causes of decision to commit suicide is
depression and hopelessness. Could it be said that men suffers more depression
than women. Is it that men are becoming more emotional than women?
When
women get emotional, they express it and move on, but men holds on to it even
when there’s nothing they can do about the situation. It was recorded that a
Nigerian American based model and a graduate of University of Lagos jumped out of
a high story building after a troubled relationship. A former super eagle’s player was mysteriously
found dead in his apartment in America too. The year 2014 greeted another of
such great loss of life due to lack of emotional control as mentioned above.
How else can you describe the situation, and what are the
possible ways of avoiding such evil occurrences in the future? Have your say!
